OCI Cards

The Overseas Citizenship of India( OCI) Scheme was introduced by amending the Citizenship Act, 1955 in August 2005. The Scheme provides for enrollment as Overseas Citizen of India( OCI) of all Persons of Indian Origin ( PIOs) who were citizens of India on 26th January, 1950 or later or were eligible to come citizens of India on 26th January, 1950 except who's or had been a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh or similar other country as the Central Government may, by announcement in the Official Gazette, specify.




A registered Overseas Citizen of India is granted multiple entry, multipurpose, life-long visa for visiting India, he she is exempted from enrollment with Foreign Regional Registration Officer or Foreign Registration Officer for any length of stay in India, and is entitled to general' equality with Non-Resident Indians in respect of all installations available to them in profitable, fiscal and educational fields except in matters relating to the accession of agrarian or colony parcels.

OCI doesn't confer political rights to bounce, to be a member of a Legislative Assembly or of a Legislative Council or of the Parliament of India; to hold Indian indigenous posts similar as that of the President, Vice President, Judge of the Supreme Court or High Court Etc.

If any overseas citizen of India of full age and capacity makes in the prescribed manner a protestation renouncing his overseas citizenship of India.


Where a person ceases to be an overseas citizen of India under subsection, every minor child of that person registered as an overseas citizen of India, shall therefore cease to be an overseas citizen of India.


Cancellation of enrollment as OCI:


The Central Government may, by order, cancel the enrollment granted under sub-section of section 7A if it's satisfied that The enrollment as an overseas citizen of India was attained by means of fraud, false representation or the concealment of any material fact.


The overseas citizen of India has shown soaring towards the Constitution of India as by law established. The overseas citizen of India has, during any war in which India may freak engaged, unlawfully traded or communicated with an adversary or been engaged in, or associated with, any business or marketable exertion that was to his knowledge carried on in similar manner as to help an adversary in that war.

The overseas citizen of India has, within five times after enrollment under sub-section of section 7A has been doomed to imprisonment for a term of not lower than two times. It's necessary so to do in the interest of the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of India, friendly relations of India with any foreign country, or in the interests of the general public.
